Founder’s Syndrome

Video Transcript..

Podcast Guest: Stevie Dawn Carter

One of the things that I like to talk about in leadership is we can never assume that people are going to think like us, act like us, feel like us or do like us, right? And so with that, I think as the leaders, we have to think about, how do I explain this to them in a way that's going to make them understand where we're trying to go?

I think too often we think, well, people should just get it because I just get it. But that's not the case. And especially when we talk about C-level executives who may be very tied to the product or service that the business offers.

The other person, they just took a job, and that's good, do you want to cultivate that, but don't expect them to act the same way you do. They don't have Founder's Syndrome and you do. So we need to make sure that we're not treating our employees as if we're expecting them to be identical replicas of us.
